BWG to MM Tube Gauge Conversion

The BWG to mm conversion chart is one of the most frequently referenced tables in heat exchanger and boiler tube specifications. Engineers and procurement professionals use this conversion to translate gauge designations into metric dimensions for manufacturing, inspection, and international trade.

How to Use the BWG to MM Conversion

The BWG gauge number defines only the wall thickness. A tube is fully specified by its outside diameter (OD) and its BWG gauge (wall thickness). The inside diameter (ID) is calculated as:

ID = OD - (2 x wall thickness)

For example, a 1” OD tube with BWG 14 wall:

  • OD = 25.4 mm
  • Wall thickness (BWG 14) = 2.108 mm
  • ID = 25.4 - (2 x 2.108) = 21.184 mm
